Whilst the famous Coast to Coast walk only begins and ends on the coast, the walk is undoubtedly deserving a place on the Walk Coast website. The Coast to Coast Walk published by Alfred Wainwright in 1973 is around 200 miles in length and passes through three English national parks: the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. The walk usually begins at St Bees, Whitehaven or Workington on the West Coast, and ends at Robin Hood's Bay on the East Coast. The route can of course be reversed if preferred.

Wainwright's original route is not possible to follow due to land access, erosion, and changes in road usage therefore it is recommended that a revised version of Wainwright's book is used to plan your route in conjunction with OS maps. The 2003 revision is currently the best option.
